According to the president of the philippine tattoo artists guild, ricky sta. ana, the buscalan village leaders were not aware that whang-od would be tattooing in the event and the tattoo works at the trade show was not part of the agreement between the village leaders and the organizers of manila fame.. Fang od, or whang od (there are varying spellings but both are pronounced the same), is the last of an ancient line of traditional kalinga tattoo artists in the philippines..

The artist is widely-known in the philippines as the oldest living “mambabatok” (tattoo artist) of northern kalinga province, and perhaps the oldest tattoo artist in the country..
